Folville Junior School

Curriculum Aims

At Folville Junior School, we are dedicated to providing an ambitious and inclusive curriculum that is tailored to the unique needs and experiences of our children in Key Stage 2. Our curriculum is designed to build excellence, support children in their personal growth and develop an understanding of their responsibility to the world in which they live.

Following a change of leadership at Folville, we have had the opportunity to revisit what makes Folville and Braunstone a special place. Over recent years, the area of Braunstone and the city of Leicester has seen huge changes. Leicester’s population has seen steady growth with significant levels of migration into the city. It is now one of the fastest growing cities in England and the third most densely populated city outside of London. The area of Braunstone and Rowley fields, which Folville serves, has grown by 15% between the 2011 and 2021 census. During this time, the demographics of Folville have evolved from a school that once primarily served White British families to one that is a vibrant mosaic of cultures, with over 37 languages spoken.

During 2024–25, our aim is to review our curriculum to reflect the changing needs of our children. We would like to integrate the rich heritage of Narborough Road, recognised as the most diverse road in the UK, into our history lessons. Understand the reasons behind large-scale immigration into Leicester to support children to have respect and tolerance for different communities who are coming together. We would like to give our children opportunities to experience the rich history of Leicester, including significant figures like Richard III and the diverse landscapes of Leicestershire.

Our PSHE curriculum will also be redesigned to address our children's specific safety needs, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to stay safe in their daily lives and prepare them for adulthood.

The curriculum documents on this website reflect the curriculum for 2024-25.

However, please be aware that we are currently revising our curriculum, and there may be some discrepancies or documents that are not fully published at this stage. If you require any further information, please contact your child's teacher.
